When I was 21, I was at drama school with my sights firmly set on a career in the theatre. A change of direction led me to Waverley Care’s Fundraising Team, where I’ve been for 21 years. It’s perhaps a different kind of role than the one I envisaged but there’s still an element of keeping the show on the road and giving a good performance, with the help of our brilliant supporters!

This is Gary Mackay. I’m delighted to support Waverley Care’s laffoffstigma campaign. We all need to work together to tackle prejudice and stigma in all walks of life and Waverley Care has been doing this head on for over 21 years. In 1992 when they started their great work with the Pleasance, I was busy knocking in the goals for Hearts. Let’s hope that provides some inspiration to the team on Saturday!
21 years ago I was in Gwent, South Wales just after I recently moved from Zambia with my family. I was a mother of three young boys and doing an adaptation course to allow me to register my nursing qualifications in UK. After registering I moved to Kirkcaldy and started work with the Northern General Hospital , Western Hospital and later the Sick Kids Hospital here in Edinburgh . Now I am here working with Waverley Care supporting people living with HIV or HepC.
21 years ago I spent my life in wellies and wetsuits and all I thought about was sailing. Now I work for an organisation that reminds people to wear a different sort of rubber…what goes around comes around they say!!

PS still don’t like getting my picture taken.
